Alexis Creek has a fluctuating population of approximately 140 people. A fully modern community School was built in the year 2000 and offers Kindergarten to Grade 9. There is a full sized tennis court and a well-equipped playground, a library with a CAP site, and a good-sized gym. The Alexis Creek Community Club is very active and supports a modern community hall, a large skating rink, a riding arena and a Little Tots playground. Other Clubs are PAC (parent advisory council), the Rod & Gun, a ladies “Friends” group, Button and Bows sewing circle, local Stockmen’s livestock Association, Brownies and the Community School Association. The Community School Association operates in conjunction with the Alexis Creek School, offering after school and evening programs, activities and sports for all children and adults in the area.

The communities Red Cross Outpost Hospital was built in 1914 and is staffed with a very competent nurse who is on duty 24/7. Other Health Services are the Alexis Creek Health Center and the Ambulance with resident attendants. The new RCMP office is the center for the entire Chilcotin. We have five police officers whose homes are located on site. Interior Roads look after Road maintenance. The Ministry of Forests, Chilcotin District Office is located on Stum Lake Road has a new bright office with staff available Monday through Friday. . St. Luke’s Anglican Church, which was constructed in 1938, offers monthly services, and the Chilcotin Log Church, situated east of Alexis Creek on Highway 20 holds services every Sunday, as does the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Anaham.

Businesses include the Alexis Creek General Store and Post Office, which offers “everything under the sun” that a person would need! The Chilcotin Hotel has comfortable rooms, and family restaurant, RV sites and a unique Bar filled with local artifacts and memorabilia. The Happy Eater Restaurant is located in the historic Pigeon’s General Store that was built in 1941. For many years the upstairs served as the village community hall and theatre, and the downstairs was a fully stocked general store. Today, the same wood floor has been sanded and polished and the original shelves still line the walls of the very tastefully decorated and cheery restaurant. For vehicle repairs there is Doug’s Mechanical Service ready to get you back on the road. Fuel can be purchased at the Anaham Gas Bar south of Alexis Creek. For lumber, Chezacut Lumber Contracting and Custom Cutting will provide just what you need. For recreation, Chilcotin Wild Trout Adventures offers guided fly fishing trips and custom packages anywhere in the Chilcotin. Tzazati Mountain Outfitters provides wilderness pack trips, canoe trips on the Nazko Lake Chain and quality Big Game hunts for Moose, deer, bear and wolf.

The Bull Canyon Provincial Park is 10 km west of Alexis Creek, and offers lovely campsites and walking trails beside the Chilcotin River. You pass by the historical Battle Bluff, which was the scene of battles between the Chilcotin and Shuswap Indians. Nearby under the rimrock is a number of interesting ice caves, which are a favorite spot to hike to. Bull Canyon got its name from the first ranchers in the area who used it as a bull pasture.

Accommodation in Alexis Creek at this time is good. There are a number of homes for sale and /or rent and market prices are reasonable. The main job sources in the area are the government establishments, cattle ranches, tourism, and logging.
